Can you help out an officer, if he's in trouble???

Question: Like if you're driving, and you see the officer struggling with a suspect, and that the officer seems to need help, can you? or should you just back away? I've heard that if you help an officer, you could get in trouble too. Also, what if the officer was hurt, could you just go into his patrol car or use his radio, and try to talk to the dispatcher to get help, or not? Sorry, just wondering.

Answer: Don't jump right in the fight, but ask if he he needs help, then get into it. If you jump right in, he may think you're another assailant and go after you too. If you see an officer down, feel free, no feel obligated, to get on his radio and ask for help. Helping an officer that needs it, will not result in any criminal matter with the police. Unless of course you keep pounding the guy after the cuffs are on and the officer tells you to stop hitting him ; )
