Answer: I'm from there. Oakland like most cities has its good and bad. North and East Oakland are more poor and industrial areas. North Oakland is a major port for California and it has few ghetto neighborhoods. Central and West Oakland are nice areas. Lake Merrit area in West Oakland is the nicest residential area in Oakland. Central Oakland is more semi-metropolitan, but seeing how San Fransisco is minuets away it isn't really much to do or see. Also in south Oakland is Oakland airport. It's domestic flights only. Oakland has nice mountains too and the last few winters they have gotten some snow! Oakland is a nice city in general and a nice place to live. It's not as bad as most think.
